Certainty therefore is not to be confused with reality or truth.
Byers writes: “We must always be vigilant about the tendency to trade in our freedom for the illusion of security and certainty. The danger is ideology, the power of an idea or a set of ideas. Science and religion both have the potential to become ideologies with disastrous consequences.” p.68
